UXB MD gets the conversation going at 2gether08

The digerati gathered together in Shoreditch to discuss how social media can tackle big world issues.

Festival of ideas

2gether08, funded by Channel 4, brought social entrepreneurs, tech investors, policy makers and social media types together at the Rochelle School for two days of visioning the next phase of the internet.

UXB MD Sean O’Halloran lead one session looking at social networking in the scientific community. He presented an idea we worked on with the Malaria Atlas Project (MAP) which is attempting to create the world’s first online map of malaria infection worldwide.

Social science

The MAP project has inspired us to try to develop a ‘Facebook for researchers’, a mass collaboration tool that will accelerate learning and create new networks of scientists working towards a common goal.

The audience really got it, and ran with the idea adding valuable suggestions and offering contacts to get the concept moving. The conversation was so lively that event organisers had to call a halt to allow the next scheduled speakers to begin.
