Best of the Booker Design

2008 is the 40th anniversary of the Man Booker Prize for Fiction, this book celebrated all the winners, shortlists and judges and trailed the Best of the Booker prize.

Ever since PH Newby won the inaugural prize with Something to Answer For in 1969 the Booker has stirred up controversy, stimulated debate, uncovered many great literary works and sold a lot of books.

Did you know that the idea for the prize was put forward by Ian Fleming during a game of golf? Nor did we, until we formatted the foreword to this book by Ion Trewin, Administrator of the Man Booker Prizes.

Best of the Booker

As well as listing the winners, shortlists, judges and a brief insight into each year's selection, this brilliant book trailed the Best of the Booker. A panel of judges was asked to select a shortlist of the best books to have won the prize. The selection was opened up to a public vote on the website and the winner was announced 10 July 2008.

As in 1993, on the 25th anniversary, the winner was Midnight's Children by Salman Rushdie.
