Royal Academy - From Russia Exhibition Poster Design

Strained relations between Russia and the UK meant the collection of French and Russian master paintings from Moscow and St. Petersburg very nearly didn’t come to the Royal Academy.

Before politics intervened the RA had given us the task of choosing from master works created between 1870 and 1925 to design a poster for the planned exhibition. The chosen image featured the rhythmical and harmonious Matisse painting, The Dance.

Never seen before

Luckily for visitors to the RA, and us, this amazing collection of previously unseen work was cleared for exhibition. The posters and promotional material went up and the show opened to great acclaim on 26 January 2008.
